The GSI is committed to a clear and focused approach to political education. Our six key areas address social, political and global challenges providing space for learning, dialogue and exchange. Through innovative projects and events, we promote sustainable development, democracy and international collaboration. Our educational work is always guided by the principles of openness, diversity and practical relevance.

Democracy and Political-Historical Education
Democracy must be learned and lived. Our programmes foster an understanding of democratic processes, reflect historical developments and make democracy a tangible experience. Educational trips to memorial sites, interactive workshops and events on the significance of the Basic Law are just a few examples of our initiatives.
German-French and Intercultural Collaboration
Europe is a key focus of the GSI, with a particular emphasis on German-French and intercultural cooperation. Since 1963, the GSI has organised numerous German-French and intercultural youth exchanges every year in close collaboration with the German-French Youth Foundation. Beyond intercultural learning, young people engage with topics such as sustainable development, remembrance work, civic engagement, and European unity.

Peace, Security And Development
Peace is the foundation of social development. We offer educational programmes on topics such as conflict resolution, security policy and engagement in development policy. In doing so, we build on dialogue and seminars that address current challenges such as the "Zeitenwende” in Europe.
Justice and Participation
Participation and social justice are essential for the cohesion of our society. Our seminars are designed for multipliers, young people and active citizens to promote democratic participation. Key topics also include migration and civic engagement.

Work and Economy
What will the world of work look like in the future? We look at current questions on the shortage of skilled labour, work-life balance and the concept of New Work. Educational leave programmes and specialist conferences provide space for discussions on challenges and solutions in the field of work and economy.
Climate, Environment and Sustainability
Education in sustainable development is a core priority of the GSI. Our seminars and workshops raise awareness of sustainable practices and the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through innovative formats, we explore topics such as climate adaptation and sustainable living.
